OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement (WFOT, 2012).
Courses are taught using a variety of teaching methods and practical sessions, including formal lectures, practical skills sessions, a group working, problem-solving approaches and on-line technology with a strong emphasis on inter-professional learning.
Occupational therapy degree course combines academic study with integrated placements, which can take place across a range of health and social care settings. Work areas traditionally include physical rehabilitation, mental health, learning disabilities, social services, community-based rehabilitation, research and education. On these placements, students will get to work with people of all ages, in an increasing range of health, social care, community-based rehabilitation, research and private care settings. Students will be taught how to accurately assess the physical, mental and social needs of individuals, and to put in place bespoke treatment plans to help them achieve their personal goals. Time is split between theory and fieldwork practice, and all modules of study contain aspects of theory and professional practice, to support the development of critical inquiry skills.
The final degree award is achieved based on continuous assessment of course-based work, and fieldwork practice assessments, research and examinations.
Library is an essential part of any educational institution. Keeping in mind the convenience of the students, Saic College of Medical Science and Technology (SCMST) has established a library in each campus with subject-wise and reference books. The number of domestic and foreign books in the library is more than 10 (ten) thousand. SAIC Group is always trying to increase this number by adding new books.
Keeping in view the residential facilities and security of the students, SCMST authorities have been running separate residential hostels for boys and girls with 60 seats. In addition to cleanliness, the entry, and exit of students are recorded in the register book in order to manage the hostel in an orderly manner. Besides, the hostels are fully controlled by CC cameras. Adequate library and lab facilities are available for the students staying in the hostel.
