Chair’s Welcome

Greetings!

We are pleased to welcome you to the Department of Laboratory Medicine in SAIC College of Medical Science & Technology. We have almost all the amenities to support our faculties to conduct world-class research as well as we provide a homogeneous environment for one-on-one interaction amongst faculty, staff and students at all levels.

Our department started its journey back in 2006. Since then, we are maintaining a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. It has only been possible because of the faculty, students and staff dedicated to promote cutting edge research, outstanding teaching and service to college. As scientific investigators, faculties here are not only engaged in teaching but also in training the next generation of talented young scientists who will meet the challenges of the 21st century.

 

The department focuses in developing young individuals who will contribute to the academy, industry, government and non-government organizations locally and internationally in the days ahead. Therefore, students enrolled in our programs have the unique opportunity to receive quality education for the personal and professional growth.

Growth and Development

 

Mission:

The mission of this department is to provide programs composed of courses which are structured to equip students with a solid foundation in the laboratory sciences, alongside training them at the forefront of research.  The department aims to develop the leadership quality in the students with a vision and capacity to carry out the mission and make a significant difference locally and globally in the field of laboratory science.

 

Vision:

The vision of this department is to reach national and international recognition for excellence, innovation and regional engagement.  

 

 

Objectives

  • To provide qualified graduates in national and international level to contribute in the field of laboratory science.
  • To demonstrate their ability to work successfully as a member of a professional team and function effectively.
Library is an essential part of any educational institution. Keeping in mind the convenience of the students, Saic College of Medical Science and Technology (SCMST) has established a library in each campus with subject-wise and reference books. The number of domestic and foreign books in the library is more than 10 (ten) thousand. SAIC Group is always trying to increase this number by adding new books.
Keeping in view the residential facilities and security of the students, SCMST authorities have been running separate residential hostels for boys and girls with 60 seats. In addition to cleanliness, the entry, and exit of students are recorded in the register book in order to manage the hostel in an orderly manner. Besides, the hostels are fully controlled by CC cameras. Adequate library and lab facilities are available for the students staying in the hostel. Program Description

B.Sc in health Technology (Lab) is a four years course under the University of Dhaka. After completing this course, a student has an opportunity to work as a medical technologist, Scientific officer even lab-in-charge in different private hospitals.
Facilities are:Rich teaching faculty (Full time & Part time) Year-wise individual classroom Multimedia Projector-based classroom Laboratory facilities (Bio, Micro, etc) Separate hostel facilities for boys & girls Canteen facilities for Teachers, Stuff & Student
Eligibility for Admission:Candidates passing SSC & HSC or equivalent examination from Science group with Physics, Chemistry & Biology will be considered eligible for admission into B.Sc. in LABORATORY MEDICINE course.
The requirement for admission in LABORATORY MEDICINE:Candidates passing SSC and HSC or equivalent examination from science group with biology will be considered eligible for admission into B.Sc. in physiotherapy course. The candidate who have passed SSC and HSC in the current year and only two years back having GPA 6.00 and at least GPA 2.50 both in SSC and HSC is a must.
Lab facilities:Saic Collage of Medical Science & Technology (SCMST) is well equipped with modern instruments & apparatus belonging Biochemistry, Microbiology, Hematology through which a student can develop all kinds of practical knowledge.
Job sectors:Different private hospitals, autonomous organizations e.g. (BSMMU, NGO) as a Medical Technologist, Scientific Officer even Lab-in-Charge also. A student can serve as a medical technologist in abroad.
Opportunity for higher study:The students who have already passed the B.Sc in Health Technology (Lab), they can gel admitted to a Masters course in Biochemistry & Microbiology in different govt & Private Universities. Besides, the students have an opportunity to receive the degree of MPH. Besides, after obtaining a high score at IELTS or GRE Exams, a student may easily receive a Master’s degree at different Universities in abroad.
